Your Nutu coach supports your Social Team and you!

Nutu Score
How is the Nutu Score calculated?
Nutu relies on a complex scoring system called the Nutu score which is designed to let you know how you are doing in balancing your nutrition and exercise. The Nutu Score incorporates multiple factors including the food you eat or drink, your exercise, your sleep, and the effects of certain nutrients on your health. However, Nutu Score is most heavily influenced by the number of calories you eat (calories in) and calories you burn (calories out). Calories out are not just what you burn doing exercises, they include all the calories your body uses to do the basic functions that keep you alive. This is often referred to as Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). In fact, your BMR accounts for 70-80% of the calories you burn. “Calories in” are reflected in a positive score while “calories out” pull your score in the negative direction.
How does the Nutu Score work?
Nutu Score resets at midnight, to allow you to begin each day with a fresh start. Because we typically don’t eat at night, your Nutu Score will always be negative in the morning and will only move back up towards zero after you eat (and log your meal). Based on the average Basal Metabolic Rate of adults like you, the Nutu Score will move 3 points in the negative direction every hour. This explains why your Nutu Score is likely to be -15 to -27 each morning, depending on what time you wake up.
How is the Nutu Score for food determined?
The Nutu Score for food is based on a food items nutritional information compared to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendations of:
- <30% of calories from fat
- <10% of calories from saturated fat
- <10% of calories from added sugar
- > 5 grams of fiber
- < 2,300 mg sodium per day
What is the difference between Nutu Score and the traffic light for food?
The Nutu Score provides a positive value based on the nutritional information for a food item and if consumed what color range you will placed in on the Nutu gauge. The traffic light is color that should guide you on what foods to eat more or less of. Choose a green traffic light more often, those with a yellow traffic light less often, and a red traffic light on occasion.
